The Ford Hill Descent Control Feature Explained
In our latest Ford vehicle models, a unique feature aimed at maintaining your vehicle's speed while descending precipitous terrains may have slipped your attention: the Hill Descent Control. This feature is a sophisticated system that ensures you have a secure and controlled descent down lengthy slopes, without forcing you to continuously apply the brakes. Such a remarkable feature is a testament to not only Ford's commitment to innovation, but also to ensuring that every detail of your drive is perfected.
Key Features of the Hill Descent Control
When activated, the Hill Descent Control draws upon the vehicle's braking control system. It helps regulate your vehicle's speed, allowing you to focus more on your steering. The feature can be effortlessly used with a simple press of the Hill Descent Control button located conveniently on your dashboard.
In response to the activation, an indicator light illuminates within your instrument cluster, accompanied by a chime sound, confirming the activation. Afterwards, by using your accelerator or brake pedal, you can set your vehicle's speed to your preference. Upon removing your foot from the pedal, the selected speed is maintained courtesy of the Hill Descent control feature.
Although the feature enables the vehicle to maintain speeds between 2 to 20 miles per hour (mph), it remains functional between 20 to 40mph to aid the vehicle's descent. However, bear in mind it cannot hold a set speed higher than 20 mph. You can always adjust the speed with the accelerator or brake pedal.
Additionally, the Hill Descent Control feature features a built-in safety mechanism requiring a cooling downinterval after successive usage. Should this occur, the system will warn you via the message center, accompanied by an audible tone, before it disengages. In such instances, manual engagement of the brakes is necessary to control your descent speed.
To deactivate the feature, you can simply press the Hill Descent Control button again. Alternatively, the system automatically deactivates when your speed exceeds 40mph or when the ignition is switched off.
