Setting up this feature could be accomplished by downloading the FordPass™ app from your smartphone's app store. With an existing FordPass™ account, users can easily log in and activate their vehicle. For new account creations, the app offers an easy-to-follow set-up process that will eventually lead into activating the vehicle and initiating the phone-as-a-key feature.
The app has a 'set up phone as a key' prompt that will re-direct the user into a setup process. Here, the user would have to give their virtual key a name and connect it to the car’s Bluetooth service. A backup start passcode is suggested at this point for alternative start-up cases where phone use could be impossible.
The Mustang Mach-E's smart features also include walkaway locking, which automatically locks the doors when the driver leaves the vehicle with their phone or key fob. Additionally, there is a valet mode that allows valet attendants to access and drive the vehicle using a temporary passcode without handing over the owner's phone or key fob.
